Necromancer Beginner Leveling Build Guide

About

This guide outlines the Commander’s Blight Necromancer, a high-utility minion build designed for a smooth transition from early leveling into the first few Season Ranks. This build focuses on a "Commander" playstyle, where your Necromancer acts as a tactical support for a massive army of skeletons and a powerful Golem. By using Blight and Corpse Tendrils, you lock enemies into "kill zones" while your minions receive massive attack speed and damage buffs. It is a highly defensive build that relies on Fortify and Damage Reduction to keep both you and your army standing in the thick of battle.

Gameplay Loop

The strategy revolves around high-density crowd control and minion buffing:

  • Initiate: Cast Blight to create a zone of shadow damage that slows enemies and increases the damage they take from your minions.

  • Group: Use Corpse Tendrils on a nearby corpse to pull all enemies into your Blight pool and Stun them.

  • Assault: Use Bone Splinters to generate Essence and trigger the Acolyte's bonus, which grants your minions increased crit chance against those targets.

  • The "Nuke": Activate Army of the Dead for massive AoE damage and to instantly resurrect your entire skeletal army if they’ve fallen.

  • Maintain: Keep your Golem active and use its unique ability (based on your selection) whenever the cooldown is up to trigger Hulking Aspect benefits.

What is this build for?

This build walks you through a basic skilltree build from Basic skills to your Key passive, setting you up for a simple structured build you can use to experience the game as a new player to the Necromancer. This build can be enhanced further and can be played all the way to max level, however, the idea of the build is to help introduce players to the fundamental playstyle for the Necromancer class. Once you reach the end of this build, you will be able to move towards any of our Necromancer Endgame build guides with the a solid amount of resources and hopefully gear drops to move towards max level.

Helltides

What is it?

Region-wide demonic invasions that cycle across Sanctuary. They feature high enemy density, environmental hazards (meteor showers), and unique chests called Tortured Gifts.

  • How to use for leveling: Helltides are your primary 1–60 engine.

  • Strategy: Focus on the Accursed Ritual (the "Maiden" event) where players group up to summon a boss. It provides the highest XP-per-hour in the open world.

  • Pro Tip: Use the Profane Mindcage (if available in the current season) to increase enemy levels by +10, significantly boosting your XP gains while farming Cinders for chests.
